The ceremonial cake detail presents the birthday cake during the Regimental Combat Team 1's, 233 Marine Corps Birthday celebration, Nov. 10, 2008, at Camp Ramadi, Iraq. Marines and Sailors of RCT-1 gathered to hear Gen. John A Lejeune's birthday message, read at Marine Corps balls worldwide and a video presentation of the Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James T. Conway and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Sgt. Maj. Carlton W. Kent. The commanding officer of RCT-1, Col. Lewis A. Craparotta, took a moment to address all the Marines in attendance. "Over the past five years Marines have sacrificed a great deal in the Ramadi -Fallujah corridor. We have a new generation of Marine heroes and all of you here are a part of another chapter of the illustrious history of our Corps. The accomplishments of Marines here in Iraq will be celebrated in years to come at the Marine Corps Birthday along with the great battles of Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, Inchon, Hue City and others. So as we pause to celebrate and reflect on our history today, be proud of where you are and what you have accomplished you are indeed worthy successors to those that have gone before you and you are living up to the legacy of the Marines in our Corps."
