Latvian Lt. Col. Gunars Kaulins, the exercise director for exercise Summer Shield, presents a gift to U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. John Raisch, awarding him as the best Marine of the exercise during Summer Shield’s closing ceremony aboard Camp Adazi, Latvia, April 16, 2014. This is the 11th iteration of the Summer Shield exercise, a joint staff planning and live-fire maneuver event designed to enhance the NATO force’s capacity and capability to integrate combined arms and maneuver at the battalion and brigade level.
