First Lt. George A. Saenz Jr. stands in the crater created by a massive improvised explosive device that damaged his Buffalo H mine-resistant ambush-protected near Zaidon, Iraq, June 28, 2008. Saenz, the commander of the Route Clearance Platoon attached to Regimental Combat Team 6, was recently named the Marine Corps Engineer Association's Combat Engineer Officer of the Year for 2008.
