First Lt. Robert Wilson III, a platoon leader assigned to Company D of the 2nd “Lancer” Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st “Ironhorse” Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, looks for a memorial marker for his father at an area known as Refrigerator Gap March 2 at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif. During Wilson’s rotation to NTC, his chain of command made it possible for him to visit the location of the helicopter crash that took his father’s life in 1989. “That was definitely an example of good leadership,” Wilson said. “(It showed) that the chain of command supports their soldiers and honors soldiers that have fallen. It was good to see that sacrifice and service (are) valued in this organization.” (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. John Couffer, 1BCT PAO, 1st Cavalry Division)
