Marines with 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, work with a M249 weapon system during a practical application exercise as part of the machine gunners course aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Feb. 27, 2014. During the eight-day course Marines learned the characteristics and the effective implementation of four weapon systems. The practical skills Marines learn during the course help enable them to be effective under a variety of combat scenarios.
