Command Master Chief Dean Fischer, left, offers Seaman Apprentice Matthew S. Weireter the first bite of birthday cake March 8 at the Crow’s Nest on Camp Shields during the Seabee and Civil Engineer Corps’ anniversary celebration. This year marks the 72nd Seabee and 147th CEC anniversary. Naval tradition dictates the oldest sailor in attendance pass on a piece of cake to the youngest, symbolizing the passing of youth and vitality. Weireter is a construction electrician with Naval Mobile Construction Command 1,which is based out of Gulfport, Miss. and has 13 global details deployed throughout the U.S. and Asia-Pacific area of operations. Fischer is the command master chief of NMCB-1.
