Retired Marine Lance Cpl. Bobby McCardle, a below-knee amputee and member of the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team, conducts batting practice before a game against Honolulu Veterans Affairs at the Central Oahu Softball Complex in Waipahu, Hawaii, Jan. 9, 2013. McCardle, 26, a native of Franklin, Wisc., lost part of his right leg after his armored vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in Iraq. The 14-member team, comprised of Marine and Army amputees wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq, has traveled nationwide to play softball games since its creation in April 2011. They won the game 20-4.
