New York National Guard launches citizens emergency training program

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo speaks to more than 500 New Yorkers gathered at Farmingdale State College on Saturday, Feb. 1 to learn emergency preparedness basics from New York Army and Air National Guard members. The Guardsmen are serving as trainers for the governor's initiative to train 100,000 New York citizens in emergency preparedness basics.

Jerald Russell from the 206th Military Police Company mans the gunner position during reactions to an improvised explosive device while training at the New York State Emergency Preparedness Center in Oriskany, N.Y., on May 13. The Army National Guard Soldiers completed their IED training as part of their preparation for mobilization and deployment to Iraq later this summer.
