Rct. Andrew Cottrell, an 18-year-old native of Montville, Conn., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. Cottrell is training with Platoon 3013, India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Feb. 14, 2014. “I joined the Marine Corps because I love this country, and I wanted to live up to what being a Marine is – being a man and not being afraid of anything, going forth and doing what has to be done to finish a mission. The Marine Corps is the best. They don’t take no for an answer. They just go out and get things done the first time. They don’t make mistakes. They do things right,” said Cottrell, who graduated from Montville High School in 2013. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
