Sgt. Thiahy Hong, a heavy equipment operator with the North Carolina National Guard’s 725th Engineer Support Platoon, runs across the finish of the three-mile road march, as Sgt. 1st Class Timothy Bates, the non-commissioned officer in charge of the event, checks his stopwatch, in Charlotte, N.C., on Dec. 7. Twelve soldiers had to complete the event in less than 35 minutes in order to qualify as part of the 130th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade’s Best Warrior Competition held Dec. 7-8. Hong placed second in this event with a time of 32 minutes and 34 seconds.
