A few Soldiers with the 1st Cavalry Division received their first glimpse of the V-Communicator (pictured), an iPod-based translation device, during a demonstration of the new capability at Fort Hood, Texas, July 21-22. The V-Communicator is designed to aid troops with the challenges of interacting with local populations in foreign countries by giving Soldiers hundreds of different phrases in languages like Arabic and lessons in cultural awareness . The capability itself consists of two main parts including an iPod-type device (left) that connects to a speaker (right).
