WESTERN EGYPTIAN DESERT (Sept. 20, 2005) - Orlando, Fla., native Sgt. Rodrigo J. Benites (foreground), low-altitude air defense team leader, Marine Air Control Group 38 Detachment, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), braces himself as Platteville, Colo., native Lance Cpl. Brandon M. Bishop, LAAD gunner, MACG-38, fires a Stinger missile at an airborne target using the Man-Portable Air Defense system during Exercise Bright Star in the Western Egyptian Desert. The joint coalition training allowed military personnel from the host nation and the Netherlands to observe the equipment and procedures used by U.S. Marines to engage low-flying aircraft and met its goal of strengthening the bond between coalition forces, as well as allowing the exchange of information and cultures.
