1st Sgt. Daniel Perry, combatives instructor and first sergeant at Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 223rd Regiment Regional Training Institute, officiates over a match between Spc. Cameron Sumaya, red belt, an automated logistical specialist with the 1106th Theatre Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group, and Pfc. Ian Peacock, an infantryman with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry Regiment. The match was part of the California Army National Guard's Best Warrior Competition held at Camp San Luis Obispo, Sept. 11. Inspired by his medically fragile daughter, Perry began studying pre-med and was recently one of 12 National Guardsmen accepted into a two-year physician's assistant program at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
