Sappers prepare newest soldiers for deployment

Staff Sgt. Michael Metzger, combat engineer, 570th Sapper Company, 14th Engineer Battalion, evaluate Sgt. Robert Davis as he practices his skills probing for explosive devices as part of a field training exercise on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., Sept. 16-20. The soldiers received hands on refresher training on equipment standard in their field as combat engineers with mine detectors, Talon robots and mine detecting vehicles. The command staff also used the training exercise to determine who will do what job in the company during their deployment early next year.
