Recruits of Platoon 2078, Hotel Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, relax and prepare for the next day during an hour of free time Aug. 13, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. The one hour of free time is spent inside the barracks and is intended to be a relief period from the training day's 15 hours of close supervision and interaction between recruits and drill instructors. Hotel Company is scheduled to graduate Sept. 20, 2013. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent for females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. David Bessey)
