The Maryland National Guard is hosting a large scale exercise this weekend known as Vigilant Guard with more than 2,000 personnel from 30 different federal, state and local government agencies.
The scenario includes a simulated explosion at a chemical production facility in Dundalk, Md., that collapses causing mass casualties and trapping a number of personnel and a simultaneous cyber attack.
Working with the city of Baltimore and the Baltimore Urban Area Security Initiative the exercise will test the National Guard as the first military responder in support of the governor. The objective of the exercise is to improve command and control and operational relationships with internal military and external civilian and military partners against homeland security threats.
