U.S. Marines with the Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 1/6, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), conduct air assault training on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Feb. 22, 2023. The air assault training increased proficiency of landing in a contested area and integration with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 162 (VMM-162) Reinforced. Air assault operations are a subset of airborne operations and a form of vertical envelopment in, which assault forces using the mobility of assault support assets and the total integration of combat power, maneuver under the control of a ground or air maneuver commander to accomplish a mission.
