  • ST. PAUL, Minn. - At the direction of Gov. Mark B. Dayton, four
Minnesota National Guard UH-60 "Blackhawk" Helicopters and Army and Air
National Guard Aviation support teams will begin assisting today the
ongoing firefighting efforts within the Pagami Creek region of north
eastern Minnesota.

"Soldiers and airmen are working together to support local fire
suppression efforts," said Army Maj. Scott J. Rohweder, chief of
operations for the Joint Operations Center, Minnesota National Guard.

"The aircraft departed at 10 a.m. today from the Army Aviation Support
Facility #1 located in St. Paul, Minn.," said Army Capt Jonathan P.
Andrews, officer in charge of the support team.  "We regularly train for
this type of mission and I have full confidence in the team."

According to the U. S. Forest Service, the 1,750-acre Pagami Creek Fire
has been burning since Aug. 18 in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area
Wilderness, along with several smaller fires to the east and north in
