Crew members from the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Kukui removing debris from the Kure Atoll. The crew removed about 11,000 pounds of marine garbage that had washed ashore or otherwise accrued on the shores of the atoll. Although the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is the lead agency for marine debris removal, the U.S. Coast Guard partners with NOAA to assist.
