Soldiers assigned to the 5th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, U.S. Army Alaska, uses binoculars to monitor a live fire while his unit and U.S. Air Force Air National Guard Joint Terminal Attack Controllers train together at Yukon Training Area, Alaska, to hone joint interoperability and close air support capabilities in a high operations tempo simulated combat environment during the Red Flag-Alaska 14-3 exercise, Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014. Joint Terminal Attack Controllers deploy with Army units, and bring to the fight an ability to quickly and accurately call close air support to engage enemy targets on the ground. Red Flag-Alaska, a series of Pacific Air Forces commander-directed field training exercises for U.S. forces, provides joint offensive counter-air, interdiction, close air support, and large force employment training in a simulated combat environment.
