My name is 1st Lieutenant Justin Leo. While stationed in Germany, I had a few drinks at a friend's house. I still thought I was okay to drive - it was only a short trip down the road to my house. It began to rain, and lost control of my car while coming around a corner. I hit a tree at 40 mph. The responders on the scene said I wouldn't have walked away from the accident if I hadn't been wearing my seatbelt. I was taken to a German prison to get processed, then picked up by Security Forces and brought to base to be processed through the Air Force system.
After, I was given an Article 15; one month's pay was taken, and all driving privileges for one year.
Don't be me! Always have a plan before you go out and have at least one backup plan in case your original plan falls through. A taxi after a night of drinking is a small price to pay when compared to the consequences of drunk driving. Would you be able to explain to the victim's family that it was just too expensive to get a cab?
