PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The Coast Guard medevaced a recreational boater Saturday who suffered from a laceration near Oregon Inlet, North Carolina. Dare County Emergency Services contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders at approximately 3:08 p.m. to report the owner of a 22-foot power boat suffered a laceration on his leg near the Bonner Bridge and in need of medical assistance. Sector watchstanders launched a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water crew from Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, to assist. The small boat crew and a good Samaritan arrived on scene at approximately 4 p.m. and attempted to tow the vessel into deeper water in order to transfer the injured man. However, the helicopter crew arrived on the scene at approximately 4:05 p.m. and hoisted him aboard. The injured man was flown to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City and transferred to personnel there at approximately 5 p.m.
