Taking care of the land is a cultural touchstone in Hawaii. The Hawaiian phrase Malama ‘aina means to care for and nurture the land so it can give back all we need to sustain life for ourselves and our future generations.
Earth Day gave the Hawaii National Guard Environmental Office the opportunity to demonstrate this cultural value, and allow members of the community, national guard and cadets of the Hawaii national guard Youth Challenge Academy an opportunity
to participate an environmental conservation project. The Hawaii National Guard Environmental Office partnered with Kaneohe Marine Corp Base, and Bellows Air Force Station environmental offices to Eradicate invasive spices, plant native flora, all while (all the while) combing 2 plus miles of beach for man made debris. Over 200 volunteers participated in the clean up effort this weekend helping ensure Earth Day 2014 was a resounding success. Available in high definition. (National Guard Video by Tech. Sgt.
