Nevada's National Guard signed a State Partnership Agreement with the Kingdom of Tonga on Friday, April 11th. The agreement will give the two militaries the chance to exchange knowledge and skills in areas where they share common interests. These include renewable energy use, disaster relief, counter-narcotics operations, counter-terrorism, civil engineering, defense support for civil authorities and other areas. There are currently eight such State Partnership Program agreements within the US Pacific Command area of responsibility. Those present for the signing included Chief of Defense for His Majesty's Armed Forces of Tonga, Brigadier General Tau'aika Uta'atu, the Adjutant General for the Nevada National Guard, Brigadier General William Burks, and the Commander of U.S. Pacific Command, Admiral Samuel Locklear.
