The crew aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Galveston Island and members of the Chinese Maritime Safety Administration vessel Haixun 31 conducted a search and rescue exercise approximately eight miles south of Oahu, Thursday Sept. 6, 2012, near Honolulu, Hawaii.
Along with the crews of both vessels, aircrews piloting an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point worked with a Chinese MSA aircrew piloting one of their helicopters. Both agencies worked together to coordinate the rescue of a training dummy, known as 'Oscar'. The exercise offered both agencies the opportunity to work together in a team exercise.
