ASTORIA, Ore. - Ryan Barnes of Portland, Ore., describes the event of a whale breaching and striking his father's 38-foot sailboat, the L'Orca, near Astoria. The vessel was subsequently escorted to Astoria by a 47-foot motor lifeboat from Station Cape Disappointment in Ilwaco, Wash.
