Corporal Michael Toomey, from San Francisco, Calif., a rifleman with 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, received the Bronze Star Medal with a Combat V for valor during an award ceremony here, April 18. Toomey led a hasty ambush against an insurgent machine gun team while deployed to Helmand province, Afghanistan.
