Lieutenant General David Petraeus, Commanding General, Multi-National Security Transition Command in Baghdad, updates the Pentagon Press Corps via satellite on the progress of helping Iraq develop its security forces. He talks about some of the successes the Iraqi police have already accomplished, breaks down the number of forces who are fully functional, and what requirements need to be met to be considered functional. He talks about the number of Iraqi forces currently in training and about the advisory and support teams the United States has spread throughout Iraq to help build the strength of Iraqi forces. He also discusses the progress of construction and reconstruction of several military installations. He talks about the growth of equipment and explains how training and operations have continuously changed to keep up with the situation on the ground. After opening statements he takes questions from the press on issues including ethnic breakdown and leadership development within the Iraqi forces.
