Underwater Hoboken residents rescued by New Jersey National Guardsmen. From early morning and on into the night, New Jersey National Guardsmen along with local EMS were dispatched from Hoboken City Hall's bustling command post to rescue the city's stranded citizens. Hurricane Sandy left much of Hoboken's Southern end under several feet of water and though many were wading through the flood waters with ease, the disabled and mothers with young children required assistance. Hoboken Residents Natalie Vuckovic and her Daughter Rosalie were rescued from another cold, candlelit night by members of the New Jersey National Guard's 2nd 113 Infantry Battalion. Latifa Crandell was very thankful for the speedy rescue as she and her sick baby were immediately taken to an area hospital. The Minuteman's passion to help their neighbors in peril is paramount and always comes before their own needs. All across the state, New Jersey's Citizen Soldiers are napping where they can, eating when they can and saving everyone they can. The National Guard has transitioned to a State Active Duty Joint Task Force with more than 1,100 Airmen and Soldiers. More than 450 higher-water vehicles including Humvees and heavy trucks are employed assisting civil authorities. Their individual civilian and military skill sets will greatly enhance the support they provide to law enforcement, municipalities, and residents of our great state. More information will be forthcoming as things progress . Soundbites include Natlaie Vuckovic & Daughter Rosalie (11 Months) and Latifah Crandell & Daughter Zendaya (2 Months). Produced by TSGT. Carl Clegg - 108th Wing New Jersey Air National Guard. Also available in High Definition.
