  • U.S. Army North hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the new 
Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) facility on Ft. Sam Houston. The new facility 
will serve 499 Survivors of fallen servicemembers in South Central Texas, 
including 38 surrounding counties. SOS provides helps to facilitate programs 
and services to surviving Family Members (spouse, children, parents, persons 
in loco parentis, siblings) who have lost a Soldier by ensuring they have 
access to all entitled benefits, helping them foster resiliency, connecting 
them to multi-agencies and non-profit organizations, and keeping them 
connected with the Army.

Ms. Debbie Agnew, a Gold Star Mom, gave remarks. Following the ceremony, the 
U.S. Army Soldier Show performed in their honor. LTG Mike Ferriter, commanding 
general of the U.S. Army Installation Management Command, hosted the show and 
a reception for the Survivors afterward.

The Ft. Sam Houston SOS partners with the Blue Star Mothers of San Antonio 
Chapter 4 to co-host quarterly Gold Star Service Flag Ceremonies. SOS also 
holds outreach events like Family Fun Day, an event recognizing Gold Star 
Mothers and Families Day and other Installation events such as Fort Sam 
Houston National Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony and Wreaths across America.

SOS also recognizes Gold Star Mother's day, held the last Sunday every 
September. For nearly a century dating back to World War I, military families 
have held the tradition to display the service flag bearing a blue star for 
each Soldier serving in the military.  The blue star is covered with a gold 
star representing the Soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. 
Many Survivors wear the Gold Star pin to remember and honor their Fallen. Available in high definition.
  • CSJFTC Hosted 7th Annual Laying of the Wreaths Ceremony on May 23. The ceremony is held just before memorial day to recognize those who have trained at Camp Shelby and given their lives in service. A Silver Star for a Soldier killed in Action in 2005 was presented to a gold star mother.Available in high definition.
  • 2013- Soldiers in Indiana traded in their uniforms for aprons. They volunteered at the 2nd annual tip-a-soldier event and all the money raised goes the Gold Star Mother's Honor Flight Program.
  • B-roll of Iowa Blue Star Mothers meet Medal of Honor recipient Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta's mother, Rosemary.  Together, they unveil the new Iowa Gold Star Museum's Medal of Honor display.
