The new Hero to Hired kiosk opened at the Internet café at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center on April 30. Major General Mark McCarley, the deputy commander of First Army was on site to introduce it. Hero to Hired is a program designed to help Soldiers find employment.
The department of defense in conjunction with many other state and federal agencies developed the program because unemployment is a growing problem for many returning Soldiers. The Hero to Hired kiosk allows Soldiers to register for the program. It not only helps them search for job opportunities, it provides tools such as the military skills translator. It compares military job skills to those in the civilian workforce. The Hero to Hired program will now be hosted and supported at other demobilization centers across the country.
