The unit coordinated with Marine Corps Installations West, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Navy Region Southwest, Third Fleet, CAL FIRE and the San Diego Country Sherriff's department.The demonstration used one Marine Medium Helicopter Training Squadron 164 CH-46E Sea Knight helicopter, one Marine Heady Helicopter Squadron 465 CH-53E Super Stallion, two MH-60S "Knighthawks" from Helicopter Sea Combat Squadrons Three and Two One to demonstrate the Marine Corps' capabilities in the event of a severe wildfire in southern California.

  • Various aircraft with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 (Reinforced) conducted night-time take off and landing operations from the deck of the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6). Flying CH-46E Sea Knight, CH-53 Super Stallion, UH-1Y Venom and AH-1W Super Cobra helicopters were landed by pilots using night vision goggles on the darkened, bobbing ship.   • Marines and Sailors with Company C, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, execute a helicopter assault on Ie Shima Island, off the coast of Okinawa, Japan. As the MEU’s Helo Company, this raid type training prepares the unit for real-time objectives it may face in its role. The unit is offloaded from CH-46E Sea Knight and CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters, provided by the MEU’s Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 265, to eliminate hostile forces (Marine role-players) on the ground.
