Corps contractors are taking samples of soil 50-90 feet below Sacramento-area riverbanks in clear tubes, and sealing them with wax before sending them to the lab. Engineers are assessing erosion and seepage risk as part of the Corps’ American River Common Features General Reevaluation Report. The report will determine what the recommended federal plan is to provide additional flood risk reduction to Natomas as well as the rest of the City and County of Sacramento. The sampling areas are left in better condition than before: They are filled with special material that prevents water seepage. Also available in high definition
