No matter where you are in the world, the end of summer means it's time to go back to school. The Department of Defense Education Activity provides resources for military parents as well as a number of support services for students to help them to succeed in school. Petty Officer Houston Waters attended one such event and has the details.

  • Veterans Day, the annual recognition of military service, is an American tradition that dates back nearly one hundred years. At Fleet Activities Sasebo, school children were taught about the importance of continuing that tradition. A concert was held at Sasebo Elementary to honor Servicemembers this Veterans Day. At Sasebo Elementary, teachers set reading goals for young students to meet during a given school year. MC3 Houston Waters attended an event held at the school that educated students about the importance of reading as well as provided ways for their parents to get involved.
  • Many people are involved in providing safety and security on a Navy installation, not just Sailors. DoD civilian employees contribute greatly toward daily operations. MC3 Houston Waters rode alongside the Commander of Naval Forces Japan's Regional Fire Department as he performed an essential training mission at Fleet Activities Sasebo. Includes sound bites from Mark Wampler, Assistant Fire Chief, CNFJ Fire Department.
