U.S. Marines Sgt. Franklin M. Simmons, Force reconnaissance Platoon, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), was presented the Silver Star aboard the USS Boxer (LHD-4) on July 4th, 2011. The 13th MEU is deployed with Boxer Amphibious Ready Group as the Central Command Theater Reserve Force, also providing support for maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
