WHAT: Ground breaking on the new F-22 Maintenance/Squadron Operations and aircraft maintenance unit facility
WHEN: 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 22, 2011
WHERE: Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam F-22 Ramp
WHY: As a part of the Hawaii Air National Guard’s (HIANG) conversion to F-22s a state-of-the-art $37.1 million Maintenance/Squadron Operations and aircraft maintenance unit facility is being constructed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The goal of the project is to be a ‘near net-zero’ energy use building. Through the use of roof mounted photo-voltaics and other green construction methods the building is expected to use close to no electricity from the grid during normal day-to-day operations.
Construction of the new 77,500 square foot facility will allow the HIANG to demolish nine aged and energy inefficient structures. The new hangar bay will be capable of housing six F-22 Raptor aircraft.
The project is registered with the U.S. Green Building Counsel and the builders are vigorously pursuing Platinum certification, which is the highest level of recognition in Leadership in Energy Environmental Design (LEED). Also available in high defintion.
