“Pat’s Run” is an annual race held in Tempe, Arizona, in honor of Pat Tillman, a former NFL star who turned down millions to enlist in the Army and who died serving in Afghanistan. When soldiers from the Tempe-based 996th Medical Area Support Company found out that they would be deployed to El Salvador during this year’s Pat’s Run, they decided to do a shadow version of the race.
