News Stories Army Team begins Mount McKinley climb Crowning a vast glacier and surrounded by other peaks of impressive magnitude rises Mount McKinley, also known as Denali (an Koyukon Athabaskan word meaning "The High One"). 05.17.12 Story by Staff Sgt. Matthew Winstead
Soldier faces next stage of recovery after double amputation When 2nd Lt. Nick Vogt stepped on an improvised explosive device, while leading a patrol through the streets of southern Kandahar, Afghanistan, doctors at the nearby hospital weren’t sure he would live. 05.2.12 Story by Sgt. Thomas Duval
Afghans own the Arghandab Less than a year ago, the Arghandab valley was the most dangerous place in Afghanistan. The Soviets used to call the Arghandab River Valley “The Heart of Darkness.” It’s where Mullah Omar first formed the Taliban in 1994 and it’s where the famous Battle of Arghandab was fought in 2008. Today, despite some long-suffering Taliban holdouts, the valley is a peaceful place. At least it is in the village of Kvahjeh Molk. This is due in large part to the efforts of the brave warriors of Company A, 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment. 05.2.12 Story by Petty Officer 1st Class Farrukh Daniel
