Combating unemploymentCombating unemployment
It’s no secret the veteran unemployment rates is higher than the national average. The unemployment rate of the 134 Brigade Support Battalion is near 30 percent. The issue is not the soldier themselves. Often a soldier is not called back for a job he or she applied for because their resume did not translate.

World Cancer Awareness Day 5KWorld Cancer Awareness Day 5K
Twice each week I talk to my parents over Skype. They thought it was incredible that they could still see me even though I was thousands of miles away, for last deployment we relied on phone calls and e-mails to keep in touch. Even though we didn’t necessarily talk long or some days we only made small talk about the weather, it was something we all looked forward to, to see each other. It is always hard to hear tough news when you can’t be there to help or comfort a loved one, but when you can see them makes things a bit easier.

Soldier creates lupus awareness on deploymentSoldier creates lupus awareness on deployment
On the morning of Dec. 21, about 100 people or so, gathered around to help Joe Lecuyer, 40, from Minneapolis, Minn., raise awareness of lupus and run a 5K together on a cold morning in the desert. What is unique about this awareness run is Lecuyer is deployed with his Guard unit to Kuwait.

Minnesota Polar Bear Plunge in KuwaitMinnesota Polar Bear Plunge in Kuwait
This year is the 15th anniversary of the Minnesota Polar Bear Plunge. The plunge is held by the Minnesota Law Enforcement to benefit Special Olympics. The interested participants must raise a minimum of $75 and take a ‘plunge’ into one of designated spots on one of Minnesota’s frozen lakes. In the last seven years, the plunge has increased from five to 16 plunge sites all over the state, to include Camp Arifjan in Kuwait.

Bone marrow donationBone marrow donation
Feb. 4, 2012 is World Cancer Day and soldiers of the 134 Brigade Support Battalion from the Minnesota Army National Guard, deployed to Kuwait, helped to support awareness for this day through volunteering their time to register others as bone marrow donors, some even became donors themselves.
