SAN ANTONIO – Many might know him better from the movie "Remember The Titans", others know him from his motivational speaking about football around the country.
Herman Boone, a retired high school football coach, loves to inspire people through his passion and his experiences as a leader. His passion is evident as soon as he addresses a crowd.
His words resonated through the ballroom at the Marriott Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio, Jan. 3, at the coaches welcome briefing for the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
"One vision, one objective, one heartbeat," said the former coach. "That's what a team is all about."
Much like the U.S. Army shares its core values into soldiers, Boone spoke to the coaches about leading these young athletes with values and acceptance.
"The world watches you lead," said the former coach. "And, these young men depend on you to lead them."
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is in its 13th year and highlights the nation's top high school football players, along with the best high school marching band musicians and color guard members. Players in the bowl are paired with U.S. Army soldier Heroes for a variety of events throughout the week. This year's U.S. Army All-American Bowl is scheduled for kick-off Saturday, Jan. 5, at 1 p.m. (EST).
