MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. – Marine Corps Air Station Miramar’s Food Locker, sponsored by the Navy Wives Clubs of America, arranged 800 baskets of meals to distribute to families for Thanksgiving, Nov. 15.
Married service members with a child older than 2 years old qualify for the Thanksgiving baskets. However, starting the 4th Thursday of the month and lasting until the 15th of the next month, service members E-5 and below can receive free commodities.
“We make sure to provide for anyone who needs help,” said Peggy Brandenburgh, director of the Miramar Food Locker. “We want to help you before you get behind.”
Marines and sailors helped prepare the baskets with traditional Thanksgiving food items for a day.
“I have a heart for helping people to help others,” said Staff Sgt. Matthew Talicuran, a Marine Aircraft Group 11 data chief. “I can’t run this thing, but I sure can come and volunteer many of my hours to help.”
Several of the Marines who helped prepare the baskets plan to return to help distribute them Nov. 19.
