ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Soldiers deploy and return home year round from deployment. For one small group of soldiers recently returning from a yearlong tour in Kuwait, this homecoming was a little extra sentimental, coming home on Veterans Day 2012.

Eighteen soldiers from the 147th Human Resource Company (HRC) returned home on Sunday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day, to their families and friends at the Arden Hills Readiness Center in Arden Hills, Minn.

“Our 18 soldiers had the chance to participate in a historic event while assisting with the Iraq troop draw down in Dec 2011 for thousands of soldiers in the redeployment through Kuwait back to the United States,” said Sgt. 1st Class Ezra J. Schoenike, Non- Commissioned Officer in Charge for the group.

Throughout their deployment, the 147th HRC processed hundreds of thousands of re-deployers, to include Rest and Relaxation, Emergency Leave for all branches of military services, Department of Defense civilians and contractors, said Schoenike, a native of Plymouth, Minn.

Soldiers of the HRC deployed to both Kuwait and Manas Transit Center in Kyrgyzstan for nearly a year, supporting multiple Theater Gateway missions.

The soldiers of the 147th HRC received numerous accolades and commendations for their hard work throughout the deployment.

“Performance and positive attitudes while coming together as a team during our time away from families and friends back home in Minnesota and Wisconsin, made a success on all parts,” said Schoenike.

“I feel like I had a chance to excel during the deployment,” said Spc. Andre L. Atlas, Human Resource Specialist, and native of Brooklyn Park, Minn. The father of four received many awards during the deployment, one for his volunteer time with the United Service Organization.

The remaining members of the unit are scheduled to return to Minnesota next month. For more information about the unit and the Minnesota National Guard visit: www.MinnesotaNationalGuard.org
