WARDAK PROVINCE, Afghanistan - More than 50 Afghan National Army soldiers conducted a foot patrol in Pana Village to speak to local elders about security concerns in Chak district, Wardak province, Nov. 13.

Local elders approached the ANA soldiers as they moved through the village and discussed security concerns that they would not have voiced months ago.

A U.S. Special Forces Detachment commander said, "The large presence of ANA showed the remote village that the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan [GIRoA] is making security a top priority."

The ANA patrol gave locals the opportunity to discuss the Afghan Local Police program and other concerns without few of insurgent retribution.

As security becomes more stable throughout the Chak district, officials say further development and governance will strengthen the connection between the local villages and the GIRoA.
