CAMP DWYER, Afghanistan - Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133, Task Force Anchor, installed communication wires between forward operating bases in the Helmand Province during October.
Unable to find a fiber optic communications cable installer that was qualified and available in the Helmand province, U.S. Forces – Afghanistan provided the Seabees deployed to Camp Dwyer the opportunity to assist with the installation.
Equipment Operator Constructionman Dain Wilson, a crew member for the project, said, "It's a great feeling to be a part of something that you know is going to make a big difference."
More than 50 Seabees, in coordination with their local Marine counterparts, conducted 24 hour operations, convoying to and from their command post to the mobile project site as the lines were laid.
Equipment Operator 1st Class Ronnie Smith, the project's assistant officer-in-charge, said, "I am very proud of our team and the work that they've accomplished. You get a real sense of pride when you complete a mission like this, knowing that we made a lasting impact for years to come."
NMCB 133 is deployed to Afghanistan and the U.S. Central Command area of operations to assist coalition forces and provide engineering support to the Afghan government.
