ATLANTA - Defense Contract Management Agency Atlanta recently hosted an interagency program that delivered valuable business writing training to federal employees in the Atlanta metro area.
In mid-September the contract management office was the site of Business Writing Course for Professionals, a five-day training conducted by SkillPath instructor Betsy Foy. DCMA personnel from both the DCMA Atlanta and Lockheed Martin Marietta offices were joined by employees from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Center for Disease Control and Department of Education. The attendees represented various backgrounds, grades and functional skill levels.
The course covered business writing, technical writing, email, grammar and punctuation. Students were taught tools including mind-mapping, audience profiling, pre-writing, free writing and re-writing. The instructor created an interactive learning environment including a library with reference materials and study spaces for one-on-one discussions, peer reviews and individual study.
Feedback from course attendees was very positive – one even called it the “best course ever.” Another saw it as a good refresher, saying, “I had forgotten how to write like this.”
DCMA Atlanta employees attending the course plan to share the information and knowledge gained by adding a session on writing to their lunch-time brown bag presentation series.
The training also supported the three primary goals of the Atlanta Federal Executive Board’s Federal Interagency Learning and Development Council – share best practices and resources; enhance opportunities for group training; and increase networking opportunities for federal employees in the metro Atlanta area.
