SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. - Military couples here gathered for Marriage Care in Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 21.

The event was a three-day marriage retreat sponsored by Shaw's Chapel Team. Capt. Kathy Scott, 20th Fighter Wing chaplain, was in charge of the event and led the couples through activities designed to provide them with a deeper understanding of their marriage vows.

Scott also taught the couples how love and apology is expressed in different manners and how people tend to favor a particular expression.

To give them greater understanding, the couples were given three books: "The 5 Love Languages of Apology" by Gary Chapman and Jennifer Thomas, "The 5 Love Languages of Love" by Gary Chapman, and "101 Conversation Starters for Couples" by Gary Chapman and Ramon Presson.
