FORT HOOD, Texas - Fort Hood gamers lined up outside the GameStop located at the Clear Creek Post Exchange, here Monday night in preparation for the midnight release of Borderlands 2.
Borderlands 2 returns players to Pandora, where a new cast of characters embark on a zany and comical quest to save the planet from a new villainous mastermind, Handsome Jack, who is set on exterminating Pandora’s colonists so that he may industrialize the planet.
More than 60 individuals waited for the game, some arriving as early as Alex, a mortar-man with 1st Cavalry Division.
“I got here around 8 p.m.,” Alex said. “I wanted to get here and be the first one out.”
Some games only have a handful of dedicated fans at their midnight launch such as Gears of War 3, but Borderlands 2 proved to be the largest game of the season.
“This is the biggest one we had in a while,” Anita Woodard, services operations assistant, Army and Air Force Exchange Service, said. “It is definitely the biggest release this summer.”
The Clear Creek PX provides services to those located in and around Fort Hood.
“I chose this GameStop because of convenience,” Alex said. “My barracks are close by. I can get the game, go home and go back to sleep.”
Some of the iconic features of the first game will be returning in this sequel such as the art, 3-branch skill trees, class-modifications, and four-player online cooperative modes. However, like any good sequel, new features were added such as enhanced cooperative modes which allow players to split-screen locally, and then take it online for a full party of four.
“I really like the art in the game,” Alex said. “I’m looking forward to the elements of the old game they are keeping and the new aspects.”
Another new aspect is the vehicle physics that allow the players to drive, drift and perform cool stunts. The other noticeable improvement is the quantity and uniqueness of the guns available. The game boasts that a billion guns are available due to a gun generator that randomly combines unique gun characteristics.
As players return to this comical storyline, they are in for new surprises and even a few laughs as they work to overthrow Handsome Jack and his almost limitless supply of troops.
