CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — More than 60 service members with Headquarters Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 27 assembled for a six-mile excursion here, Sept. 13.
The company’s troops arrived donning their flak jackets, Kevlar helmets and packs filled with miscellaneous gear from a predetermined list.
“Attention,” commanded 1st Sgt. Brenda R. Chrismer, the company’s first sergeant. All of the troops snapped into soundless and motionless beings as they awaited the next command.
“Forward, march.” Then, in sync, they stepped off as Chrismer and the company commander led them toward the charcoal-black horizon.
“It wasn’t the longest hump we’ve done, but the pace was good,” said Pfc. Eddy D. TineoMateo, an administrative specialist with the CLR-27. “We didn’t have any fall outs.”
Upon completion, the Marines and sailors circled around Capt. James S, Mackin, the Headquarters Company commander, while he commended them for their efforts.
“We had no one fall out,” he said. “You all were motivated and came out here and did a good job.”
Not only was this a good time to showcase their skills to the company commander, but it was also a prime opportunity to prove to the upper echelon of the regiment that training has paid off.
The commanding officer and sergeant major of CLR-27, Col. Mark R. Hollahan and Sgt. Maj. Lanette N. Wright respectfully, marched alongside the Marines and sailors for the six-mile hike.
“We didn’t even realize they were with us until we got to the halfway point,” said TineoMateo. “I’m glad we all did well. It makes us look good.”
As the finish line came into site, the regiment’s commanding officer left the troops with a short, but sweet message.
“Oorah,” yelled Hollahan. “Great job Marines.”
After the hike, the Marines were given a half day at work for their stellar performance. Another hike is slated for next month and will be an eight-mile trek on the paths of Lejeune.
