Afghan Patriot fights for better tomorrow

    DELARAM, AFGHANISTAN

DELARAM, Afghanistan -Americans have been known to use the word “patriot” to describe members of the U.S. Armed Forces, however, the same can be said for those serving in the Afghan National Army.

The soldiers of the ANA fight daily for their country and have been doing so since the inception of their organization.

Soldier Amarnodeen is one of several Afghan patriots who has found his way into the ANA to defend and protect his country.
Hailing from the Takhar province in northern Afghanistan, the 32-year-old professional soldier decided to join the Army after some push in that direction by his brother.

“I have a brother who is a commander in the Army and told me about how good of a job the Army is,” said Amarnodeen, who is the middle brother. “He made a good point, and I decided to join.”

Prior to joining the ANA, Amarnodeen spent most of his time in a neighboring country for employment.

“Before the Army, I was working in Iran,” said Amarnodeen. “While I was there, I interacted with the Afghan Army and decided I wanted to join.”

After seeing his fellow countrymen at work in Iran, coupled with the influence of his older brother, he answered his call of duty.

He now finds himself, a little more than a year after his decision, receiving training from Marines and conducting operations with the engineers of the 215th Corps of the ANA to aid in bettering his country.

“I like working with the Marines,” he said. “It’s all about training. Them training us so we can train each other and the soldiers that are coming up.”

“I am not married, my older and younger brothers are,” added Amarnodeen. “I want to see this country in three years time become a place where I would want to get married, where my brothers will be happy and proud to raise children in.”

Like many other soldiers and citizens of this country, Amarnodeen just wants to do his part and create a better future for Afghanistan.

“I just want to help my country. We want to see a lot of improvements,” he said. “I just want to make a difference so that the next time you come back to see my country it is closer to being like America. We want our people to have the freedom of America.”
