BOSTON — There is a distinct theme in the section of the Defense Contract Management Agency office where Marion Julian works. Flags are everywhere, stars and stripes dominate, and the color palette is a familiar red, white and blue.
Julian is a plant clearance officer with more than 26 years of federal service, almost all with DCMA. The Boston native takes her patriotism seriously, and was recently recognized for it.
“Providing support to our military in support of our nation, and being recognized for that, is immeasurable,” said Julian, who was honored with an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award. “This award is extremely meaningful to me because of what it represents. I am truly honored and moved to be recognized.”
The ESGR is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972 to develop and maintain employer support for National Guard and Reserve service. The agency’s Patriot Award is given to individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who serve in Guard or Reserve units.
Julian was nominated for the award by Andrew Cash Melton, a DCMA packaging specialist who serves in the Air Force Reserves. “For him to have done this for me is a great honor.”
“We may not see the end result of what we do to support our troops and other service members on a daily basis. However, what we do in whatever capacity through DCMA touches someone defending our country on the frontline each and every day.”
“To me civil service means I make a difference for my country to maintain the freedoms we enjoy,” continued Julian. “Civil service is me doing the very best job I can each and every day.”
